Welcome to Harrop Fold

At Harrop Fold, we are committed to making the difference for all our young people.  Our aim is to produce well-rounded young people who are prepared for our ever-changing world. We do this by focusing on the Personal, Social and Academic aspects of education, which will drive our young people to reach their potential and achieve true excellence.

COGS (Creating Opportunities; Growing Students) is a personalised provision for our Year 7 students who have been identified, during transition, as having additional academic or social, emotional and mental health needs. The group consists of 15 students maximum and we like to think of COGS as a ’stepping stone’ between primary and secondary school. Our aim in COGS is to maximise numeracy and literacy progress whilst nurturing confidence and inspiring a love of learning in our students in order to prepare them for wider school life.
The COGS curriculum is a bespoke curriculum that is designed to suit the needs of each student. The ‘rich tasks’ are underpinned by literacy but incorporate all other subject areas with a creative end product that showcases the progress students have made.
Students spend 15 hours per week in the COGS base. For their remaining timetable, for example Maths, Science and Creative Arts, they access lessons in school in their group with full support. Within COGS students are also offered Accelerated Reading and IDL literacy groups which allow students 1:2 provision for extra reading and writing.
Students’ progress is tracked through formative and summative assessment within the COGS curriculum and also in terms of a termly reading writing and spelling test.
The ultimate goal is that students leave COGS in Year 8 with confidence and are equipped with the basic tools ready for the challenges of GCSE.
