Curriculum Intent

Technology includes a wide range of different subjects that are primarily practical in nature. They build on skills which can be used outside the academic environment and also build individual character.
Subjects will have common threads which students can identify with, they should be aspirational in nature and develop student knowledge. Practical skills to be studied will have real life experiences as their starting point as this will put into context the relationship between the practical and academic nature of the subjects.
Skills to be taught will be diverse and appeal to a broad range of students. Students who are more academic will still achieve in practical areas.
There will be links to a range of other subjects and there will be scope to develop project work with other subjects.
At KS3 a breadth of knowledge will be taught which will cover a broad range of skills. This is designed to give all students the opportunity to achieve. At KS4 students will be able to study in greater depth the subject of their choice based on the experience they gained at KS3.

Years 7-9 involves studying materials, products and processes through design, creating projects which are fun, engaging and enlightening. Having successfully completed lower school projects, many students go on to take D&T at GCSE level.

Key Stage 4

The GCSE course followed is the AQA examination in Design Technology. This is a springboard into multi-trade apprenticeships and college courses such as; Product Design, Games Design, Construction, Engineering, Architecture and many others. We have strong links with local colleges and are well placed to assist in developing our students’ future careers.Through completion of practical projects, designed to develop skills and techniques. Students create a design folio which documents the development of a final product idea, in preparation for their final exam.
